For Professionals Referring Clients
Why use us?
Although psychotherapy is available in some areas of the NHS by referral, and Mental Health Specialists work within certain NHS practices, there are often very long waiting lists to access psychotherapeutic treatment. As well as this, the treatment clients are offered can be too short or not appropriate to their specific needs.
The Golden Yew Project is a team of professionally regulated Art Psychotherapists working closely with GPs, Mental Health Professionals, Charities and local communities to provide access to psychotherapy to individuals and groups struggling to find appropriate psychological support in East Anglia, London and the South East of England, UK.
Conditions we treat
The clients we have experience of working with cover a range of difficulties, disabilities and diagnoses including:
· Abuse: including emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
· Addiction: including drug, alcohol and sexual addictions.
· Anxiety: from extreme anxiety such as social anxiety disorder to more moderate, yet life-limiting symptoms.
· Depression: from severe life-threatening symptoms to more moderate yet life-limiting chronic symptoms.
· LGBT, gender and sexual identity related issues.
· Living with chronic and/or life-limiting physical conditions.
· Living with learning difficulties.
· Mood disorders e.g. Schizophrenia.
· Personality Disorders e.g. Borderline.
· Self esteem issues: including social phobias and low-self esteem.
· Social exclusion due to cultural, religious, sexual, gender difference.
· Trauma: including PTSD and complex trauma.
What we offer
A professional service
As professionally regulated Art Psychotherapists, our work is underpinned by a rigorous psychological understanding drawing upon psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, person-centered, neuroscientific and mindfulness theory, research and clinical practices. As such our aim is to offer a high quality, effective service to all our clients.
Length of treatment
We provide both individual and group-based psychotherapy on a long-term (12months plus), medium-term (6-12 months) and short-term (up to 6 months) basis, depending on each client’s specific needs.
Affordability
Because access to the appropriate psychological support can be extremely challenging for certain individuals, groups and communities, as a not-for-profit organisation, we aim to offer appropriate, effective and affordable treatment. That means that we offer a sliding scale based on affordability, from a completely free service to £45 per hour for more affluent clients.
Working in collaboration
If individuals are already seeing a GP, Psychiatrist or a local mental health team, we also help by offering specialist psychotherapeutic support as part of an overall treatment plan, for example, in the treatment of PTSD, or Personality Disorders.
The referral process
Step 1.
We carry out an initial assessment directly between the client and an Art Psychotherapist to determine the potential appropriateness of Art Psychotherapy for the presenting issues. This initial assessment can be carried out either face-to-face or over the telephone depending on the circumstances of the individual client. There is no charge for this initial assessment.
Your client can contact us directly at info@thegoldenyewproject.org to set up the initial assessment.
You simply need to give this email address to your client. To help your client, you can also give them the link to this website which offers further advice and information.
Step 2.
Based on the initial assessment, we propose each client with a treatment plan and an appropriate funding option based on each client’s affordability. Typically, this ranges from a completely free service upwards to £45 per hour.
Step 3.
The client starts treatment with one of our team of professionally registered Art Psychotherapists. Please note, the choice of Psychotherapist is determined in consultation with the client.
A short case study
Joe (name changed) was a 32-year-old male suffering from acute symptoms associated with severe social anxiety. His GP was aware of an underlying condition of complex trauma. Although Joe was receiving excellent support from his GP, he was unable to access the long-term psychological treatment required to treat such complex issues. Working in collaboration with his GP, The Golden Yew Project provided an initial assessment and treatment plan and based on this recommended, long-term weekly one-to-one Art Psychotherapy. Because of funding from the National Lottery’s Big Fund, The Golden Yew Project was able to offer Joe treatment at a substantially discounted rate, making the necessary long-term treatment affordable. This enabled Joe to explore and identify the underlying causes of his social anxiety, treating the underlying complex trauma, significantly alleviating symptoms and greatly enhancing Joe’s quality of life.
